The most popular dives on the Elbow are on its wrecks, with
their abundance of fish. There are three major wrecks on the
reef. The Tonawanda sunk in 1866. It is the most northern and
rest offshore, with its metal hull. The City of Washington is a
schooner that sunk in 1917. It lies just offshore of the tower.
The Civil War Wreck sits just north of the tower. With the
remains of its wooden hull held together with iron fasteners.
Of these three the schooner is the most visited. Its broken
metal hull gives a nice backdrop to picture taking of the fish
that call this wreck home.
